PROF. DR. SAAD MEKHILEF Honorary Professor Department of Electrical Engineering
“The future is green energy, sustainability, renewable energy” - Arnold Schwarzenegger Energy sustainability is an issue of concern in this era. Nevertheless, it’s a role for everyone living in this world to practice not only for ourselves, but definitely for our future generation.
We are here with Distinguished Professor Saad Mekhilef, who is a keen researcher in the field of Power Electronics and Renewable Energy. Moreover, FYI, Prof Saad was listed by Thomson Reuters (Clarivate Analytics) as one of the Highly Cited (Hi.Ci) engineering researchers in the world in 2018, 2019 and 2020. “Wireless charging electric vehicles” is one of his current research projects, hoping to be introduced worldwide soon as they are environmentally friendly with low carbon emission and with the use of renewable power sources.
From Prof Saad word, educators play the major role in raising the awareness of energy sustainability in one country and the younger generation is the one to make a change in the future. On the other hand, engineers have the obligation to create solutions for the problems that are encountered based on science fact for a greener future. If you are an engineering student, be knowledgeable about sustainability. Diving deep into the facts and figures first, you can then create and spread awareness to the people around you. It’s about creating a culture.
The sustainability literacy in Malaysia is still not satisfied and more work is needed for it to be practiced, from Prof Saad. It’s not only the jobs for the government or any other society. The one who are able to change the world for energy sustainability are the public. Starting from you and me, we start to conserve energy using our own way. On campus, walk instead of driving; switch on the fan instead of the air condition; use bag instead of plastic bag.
Here is the last word from Prof Saad to our readers: “ It is really important to care about sustainability in our world and it is really important for us to work together for the advancement of our future generation. We are the one who are able to do it and it should start from us for our country and ourselves . ”
As a love to Malaysia, let’s save energy starting from now!
